I am very new to this, so please tell me how to write a root url referral code.

is it?referrer=
or is there something else I must do?

Will my log stats pick it up?

I am placing an ad for my husband's site and must track all the visits through that link.

any suggestions are welcomed, just not too technical please.

since you are the one tracking it you can name it whatever you like and yes those requests will show in your logs.

I usually use source or src but I change ti all the time

who knows I use a code that means something to me and hopefully won't to anyone else.
