I was particularly attracted to the 'Google Adsense' category, and reading about the unreal amounts of money that people make from their web sites.
This has inspired me to want to build a revenue-generating web site.
First Question:
Am I going at this from the wrong angle? Does the fact that I want to create content to earn money mean that I am doomed? Am I approaching this backwards? Should my passion for the content pave the way to making money?
Second Question:
I see a pattern of 'vagueness' across this board, which is understandable. If I had a site about something that creates large amounts of revenue, I would not like someone to copy it, and thereby share what is rightfully mine. (I am getting to the question :P) My problem is that I am not able to figure out what types of niche-market web sites will earn decent amounts of revenue.
(Here comes the question) I have 'grown up' more or less in a certain service industry. My father has worked in the industry all of his life, as did my grandfather. I feel that this fact alone would make me somewhat of an expert on the subject matter. Would this content provide the traffic/revenue that I am looking for?
For example, the business is "Servicing Widgets". My ideas for content are as follows:
-Things to do before you get your widget serviced
-Things to look for in a widget-servicing company
-Common things to expect during the process of having your widget serviced
-What it might cost to have your widget serviced
-How you might lower your widget-servicing costs
-Reputable widget-servicing companies
-Why you want to have your widget serviced professionally, rather than servicing it yourself
-Possibly a forum allowing people to post their experiences having their widgets serviced
Third Question:
Do I need to code by hand, or can I build a decent revenue-generating web site with MS Frontpage, Netscape Composer, etc?
Any comments, positive or negative would be greatly appreciated. Any links to other threads/sites would be appreciated as well. Elaboration would be gold!
Thanks in advance for your attention to this post!

EDIT: This 'service industry' is a service that the average person may only use 3 times or less in their lifetime, and has a relatively large cost.
Is developing content around a money-making idea bad? Not at all. I'd say that most of the affiliate marketers here really don't have a great personal interest in the products they promote.
Having said that, though, think about spending many hours developing content - it would certainly be less of a chore to do that on a topic you find interesting. Some of the best sites have been products of the webmaster's passion for a topic - in that case, the content came first and the money was a later byproduct of the effort.
As far as developmet tools, you'll find people use just about everything - from WYSIWYG tools like Dreamweaver to simple hand-coding. Used well, any tool can create a site that is good for users and is capable of making money.
Good luck!

Depends on how strong the competition is, how large the interested public and if they look on the Internet for information on your subject.
You might want to think about which words / phrases people use to search for this kind of content on search engines and optimize your site for them. Or if there are sites your targeted public hangs out on you can ask for link exchanges or advertise there.
