Search engine optimization and Dreamweaver

Website built using templates, try to update information

I'm another newbie seeking expertise...I like to do my own website content maintenance, including working on the content to better optimize for search engines.

My site was built using templates. When I try to alter the description, title, and keyword information (for example) on an html page, Dreamweaver tells me that info is "uneditable". Is it best to edit that info within the template files, or should that info be wiped clean on the template files, and entered within the html pages? I'm not sure what the search engines would like better.

Thanks in advance,
Gary

You'll have to put the areas of the templates that you need to edit in editable regions. Search for Dreamweaver editable regions in G or whatever and you should find enough information to get you started on this.

To create an editable area, you'll go into the code, select the lines you want to make editable and create the editable region in the same way you would for creating an editable region in the design view.

All of your pages will continue to have whatever text is now in the metadata in your template. But now you'll be able to go in and revise your metadata for each page.
