Writing articles to get search engine rankings

Hi,

I notice that there are websites that are concerned only with publishing articles on different subjects from animals to internet marketing which rank well in the search engines.

My question is this.

Does a website stand as good a chance of being ranked well in the search engines when its purpose is to give articles on different topics. For example, say one page gives information about specific pets issues, another page about employment, another about crafts and so on? I notice that ehow.com for instance does this.

Or is it better to create a website that has information on all its pages about the same topics, for example, cats?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Andrea

This seems to be the best way to get well ranked, especially if it is full of outbound links to related web sites.

I don't know about better, but it's probably easier to develop a site that has a more focused approach.

You can always broaden the sites subject matter later as long as you use a generic enough domain name so it doesn't seem at odds with the site content.

I'd be more inclined to build multiple sites, each focused on a broad but related subject area.
