Are things different in intranets?

Client has asked for a quote for changes to their intranet HTML pages

I've made a few HTML sites, but never made anything for an intranet (in fact, I've never used an intranet).

Obviously the FTP situation would be different, but apart from that, are there any substantial differences between building HTML for the www, and HTML for intranets?

Is there anything I need to be especially careful about?

Agree. The only thing I will do differently, if the client approves, is make the intranet only available to folks in that particular subnet (not available via public ip addresses).

Not so much constraints, but there are freedoms afforded by intranet design:

Page size - still keep em low but you need to do less work to crunch you pages - A network connection is going to be quicker than dial up.

Browser - most companies use one browser, and if the IT people are any good; one version too.

SEO - ie. none :)

Teaching someone to use CMS

Teaching that someone to teach others to use CMS

Meta based search engine - that use the CMS...
