what exactly is an allinanchor search?

Does it have to do with anchor text and backlinks?

Can somebody explain to me what the purpose of an allinanchor search in google is good for.. This is what I think it is. You can search for keywords such as allinanchor: widgets. Then the sites that come up are the sites that are doing lots of search engine marketing and promotion for that particular keyword. I guess you can see your competition for the actual keyword. Is this correct?

You are right. It's supposed to show you websites that have that keyword in their anchor text. It does not show you everyone you is going after that keyword. It only shows you sites that have inbound links with that keyword in it. But Google isn't exactly showing the most accurate data. Hope that helps.

I'm starting to think that the best way for good results is to analyze your competition and go in that direction with a little bit of a nudge and a twist to go higher...
