I'd like to know how to access the usenet. A Google search takes you to "google groups", but is that the "real usenet" (don't think so)?
Does access cost money?

Google took over the Usenet archives from Deja several years ago. They have the most comprehensive Usenet archive publicly available on-line. Using the Google Groups is probably the best way to access news groups without news reader software. There is no charge to access this information.
You will then need a newsreader, outlook express has one built in, or you could go with something like Agent which is a full fledged client. I think they have a free version.
Then it's just a matter of getting the list of newsgroups on the server (the one your ISP provided) and taking a look at them.
