I created my website using Frontpage 2000--it saved me from having to type out a lot of tags and it was available as part of my office software. However, it seems that it's become more of a headache than anything else. the site I have created is relatively straight forward: one or two tables on the page, three columns, three or four rows. One string of javascript for the navigation using the "Dynamic HTML" function in frontpage.

Well, my third column is not displaying correctly in Firefox, though it looks fine in IE and Safari. There is the ever present issue with the unsavable/ineditable CSS in FP 2000 (nice bug).

I want to go in and just clean up my pages so they validate (right now they don't validate no matter what kind of doctype I use).

Any ideas on what I should switch to? Really, not looking for another robust program that is going to generate MORE crappy code, I j ust want something that will take some of the tedium out of tagging everything myself. I will certainly consider a more robust program like GoLive if it gets good reviews in the not writing crappy code department. I want my pages to validate!

Thanks!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, lunasmom!

Try TopStyle Pro. It does a bang up job of html AND css, and gives you a display (quasi-wysiwyg) if and ONLY if you want it. You can get a free trial of it. Just search on the name....

[I used the freebie for about 1/2 an hour a year ago, then bought it immediately. Upgrades so far have been free.]

FrontPage 2003 has been fantastic to work with. Are you sure you don't need to just upgrade?

FWIW, I am getting to the point that I almost exclusively (ok-more like 60%) hand-code everything, and I still use FP 2003.

Using CSS, I have no problems whatsoever getting my code (html) and my style sheets (css) to validate.

Getting them to look the same in IE as well as Firefox? Well, that sometimes takes some tweaking as it would in most WYSIWYG editors.

Maybe it is an upgrade issue. i certainly don't feel like I have done anything crazy with my coding to warrant the way the validating program went wild.

TopStyle is an outstanding program, and it integrates with FrontPage very smoothly. I use that as my CSS and HTML editor within FP2003.

FP2000 is so outdated now, I can't imagine using it today. FP2003 is a huge leap in terms of usability and functionality. If you know FP, just upgrade.

I'm a big fan of HTML Kit. Simple to use and bare bones.
