Which one of these page rankings counts with google as a backward link.

www.example.com/redwidget.html with a PR of 4

or www.example.com with a PR of 8

If my site is listed on the www.example.com/redwidget.html am I getting a backward link with a PR 4, or a PR 8?

I know it's the million dollar questions!

You will get the PR4 credit shared by all the other links on that page.

If your site is listed on the www.example.com/redwidget.html page then you will get a backward link with a PR 4.

If your site is listed on the www.example.com/ page then you will get a backward link with a PR 8.

Remember its PAGE rank not site rank

Page Rank is only the rank for a "page" so if your link appears on the page that has a PR of X then a share of X will be passed to your page via the link.
