Hi

I am considering creating a directory web-site for my local town.

I would like the directory to be static yet easy to maintain.

Are there any Free scripts/software around which will help me do this?

I was also considering using DMOZ to provide the initial data till I get some paying customers. Is this easy to do?

PS: I am hosting on a Windows 2003 server.

Thanks for your help.

A directory for your local town? As in a business directory?

That could be easily created, and easily updated. No need for databases or dynamics, just hard code the business details into pages.

Rather than stealing DMOZ data, why not create your own, add the businesses free of charge, add a "please mention 'oursite.com' when contacting advertisers" and then after a while contact the businesses to see if they want to continue to be listed (pay) or not.

Matt

It is a business directory I am thinking off.

DMOZ does proper data feeds so it won't be steeling DMOZ data and when the site grows to few thousand pages hardcodig wont be so easy to maintain.

Perhaps a system that uses a databases and produces a static version of the site is the answer for me.

Is anyone running a directory site on this forum, I can really do with all the help I can get on this subject.

If you pop into the directories forum there are always discussions about directories in general and business directories
