How long will it Take

Hello everyone,

I am new to this web Design, and being a wedmaster.
But anyway here we go.. I have designed my first site, and submitted to yahoo and google can you tell me about how long it takes to see results, or how will I know if it has been indexed? This was about 2 weeks ago. Or can you give me some tips on how to go about it.. I have done a pay per click thing but there is not much happening. I am selling custom funiture. And right now a POOR MAN HAS POOR WAYS!

Hi Stra and welcome to Webmasterworld! :)

Sites can be indexed by Google in two days if you have some good inbound links. As for ranking this can take far longer depending on the amount of competition you have.

To see if you site has been index you can do a search for:

site:www.domain.com

A good starter thread would be this one:

[webmasterworld.com...]

Hi Stra, welcome to webmasterworld.

Today is getting harder and harder to make any real prediction about how long it will take to get indexed in the major engines, especialy Google.

Google seams to pick up sites pretty quickly, but getting a decent rank seams to take a lot longer than it used to. It is almost as if it lists them fast, but takes a while to actualy rank them properly.

I think the key here is to think long term and work on your link building as much as possible so that when you do come good in google you have the backlink etc in place.

Thanks for the advice. But can you tell me want back links are. I am not sure I understand! And are the links of great important's to getting on a search engines.. or getting ranked? I have checked to see on google & yahoo but to no advail.

Backlinks are links from other sites that link to your pages. The relationship between backlinks and search engines can be pretty complexed. In general search engines use spiders to index the web. They are computers that surf the web, like you or I, they read pages and store them. They then follow link from that page to other pages and do the same again.

Having links pointing to your site means that spiders are able to locate your pages by following those links.
