manual search engine submission

Are there only two search engines to submit to manually?

I have just finished optimising a website for the first time before looking at search engines for submission. It seems to me that there is only google and yahoo to submit to now by hand as all of the major companies have merged and use the same submission systems. obviously there are several smaller ones and it seems better to use software to submit to these. Am I wrong?

It's always better to submit manually to search engines, but it may be waste of time submitting to small search engines!

You're not really finished until you've rustled up a good number of inbound links. Once you have acquired inbounds, there's no need to submit to the search engines.

To follow-up on martinibuster, if the site is 100% complete (i.e., no "coming soon" pages) you can and should devote some time to submitting your site to both large and small (industry specific) web directories. There are some recent threads in the Directories forum [webmasterworld.com] that may point you toward some places that accept submissions.

Good luck, and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Why are you submitting to Google? No need - honestly.

Concentrate your time instead on increasing the number og good inbound links to your web site.

Cheers
