Is it illegal to use the "msn search the web" link as part of my website?

I'd have the link on my webpage but people could type in and search and go to msn.

What about using somebody else's weather link?

For MSN search on your site, try here:

[search.msn.com...]

You have to abide by the terms and conditions, including stuff like using particular logos, and also you are not allowed to "disparage Microsoft or its products or services" - so don't use it on a software product review site or a page with user comments! You might also want to consider a Google search box instead - it allows greater personalization of the layout of the search results page.

[google.com...]

There are various weather services which allow you to use their service in the same way - most offer the code, etc. in return for their logo and a link from your site.

Taken from the MSN terms and conditions...

"decompile or otherwise attempt to discover any trade secret contained in the Search Graphic."

What trade secret can be stored within a .gif image?

:-)

I think you should do a little reading around and see what else is on offer that is specific to weather searches. A lot of sites allow you to syndicate their content either using xml or rss.

The main benefit to this is you are able to display the results within your own site.

Hope this helps.
