Using a tell a friend about this page link

Suggest a script / service ? Danger of spam ?

I would like to add a "tell a friend about this page" facility on my pages as I think that there is good potential for word of mouth referals for my services.

Does anyone have any experience of using this kind of promotion ? If so, can you recommend a script or service that will allow me to do this ? Also, what about the dangers of people using the facility to send spam ?
