HI
I wonder if there is a definitive answer on the best format for a URL.
Most of mine within the site are [mysite.com...]
would I be better off with [mysite.com...]

I have noticed considerable differences in page rank depending on the format with regard to homepage.

If the www. is definately preferrable would it be worth the time to change each one by hand?

Regards
Rod

what is your question? that is the same thing in the original post.

www.domain.com and domain.com are exactly the same place.
If some people link to your pages with the www and some link to it without the www. then your page rank might be different for each. There has been a lot of discussion about doing a "301" redirect from one to the other. I don't have any experience with this.
I never use the www it is not necessary any more. Back in the old days when I first got a domain name. I had to go into the httpd.config (or something) file on the server and create an alias to make it work without the www. Now days I think that the server software defaults to that, so that you don't have to worry about it.

luck,
robert

Basically that was the question above. It's just another format that some people might use.

Doesn't matter, just wondered if there was another *preferred* way to show it.

Hi Guys
thanks for that, much appreciated. I shall leave everything as it is on your advice.
Being new to this site and reading so many posts seems to have brought about more questions than answers for me :)

I could possibly have been better off 2 weeks ago when I had 3 sites, all worked OK, over a 1000 pages in total but I did not even know pagerank existed!
Now I have the google toolbar and am well and truly devoured by it as with everything else.

Rod

The thing you should remember is consistency. It does not really matter if you use the www or the non-www version, but you should put in an effort to make sure you don't use both in your links. Pick one of them and use that one consistently.

this doesn't matter, but I am curious.
Dougie, what you typed is exactly the same as what he typed in the original post. www.mysite.com/widget is what he typed and what you typed also. So what do you mean by "another option".

luck,
robert

I think you should go with the shorter URL. There are a number of reasons for this, several of which were discussed in this thread recently: Forward www.domain.com to domain.com [webmasterworld.com]

However, like claus says, whichever one you use, use it, and it alone for promotion. Consistency is the key here.
