I was editing my site's Index.html page in dreamweaver MX2004, when I saved it, it went down to 1K size (from 5K), and contained only the following string:

SCU$%?xc```fpcd`}' /

I thought we'd done something silly as we're new to this, But... Norton A/V is disabled, I've tried Trend's on-call web Anitvirus, that says we're clean. Why don't I believe it?

this has happened each time I reload the index page from a backup.

I'm not doing any more development on any of my sites until I've resolved this (just because I'm paranoid...)

all help/advice gratefully received.

This happened to one of our guys once, it was due to a falty harddrive. Try running scandisk or a disk checking utility.

I doubt if Macromedia would sell a product with or a virus. I would call their help desk.

But I could have picked up a virus that targets dreamweaver Couldn't I?

If it is a virus it would more likely be targeting the file rather than the program.

Does the same thing happen with other .html files? Did you try scandisk?

Scandisk found no problems, but I did defrag for good measure!

This may shed more light on it:

If I close the page in dreamweaver without saving, and get the 'do you want to save' box, if I click any of the buttons (yes/no/cancel) the corruption Sometimes happens.

If I've done F12 to test, and said yes to save then, it seems to be OK
