Hello all,

Relatively new to this game so apologies in advance for asking what may seem simple or obvious questions. Not convinced this is the right forum to pester but here goes.

I want to know more about tracking traffic and the programs to use or avoid. I'd like something cheap (or free even!) but would like to hear more about the benefits of tracking that arent perhaps overtly obvious to the un-initiated.

I run a small commercial site with no professional SEO or webmaster input and would appreciate any help.

Thanks

C.

Hello claimsweb,
If your web site is hosted by a professional hosting firm then they probably offer a web site statistics tool which will at least give you the basics.

If not, then there are plenty of scripts available for use. I can't suggest any one in particular since I rely on the package provided by my host but you can find a variety of freebies at www.hotscripts.com.

[hotscripts.com...] (search string of "traffic" no language specified)

If the server is your own then get yourself a copy of Webalizer. Or check out these threads for more information: [searchengineworld.com...]
