MSN beat Google!

Surprisingly, MSN beat Google in listing new pages. The new pages went up on December 29th and MSN is already listing them. Not on Google yet and they usually have em within a couple of days! No sign of them on Yahoo yet either but then that's no surprise. I guess whatever Google is doing right now has slowed their normally speedy process.

we have noticed this too. they do seem to be very quick at listing new pages. well done msn...

We have seen the same for the last few months. MSN is always the first to index our new content. Yahoo! always crawls it first, but is slow to make it searchable.

Overall, MSN is getting better. But just getting better is not going to save them at this point.

you also see new sites rank quickly, where on google they first rank after 6-12 month if it is in a big category, because of the sandbox. So if you look for new sites, search on MSN.

Me too! - Having new site lived and linked by 30 Dec 05 just before the NY holiday and after returning on 3 Jan 06, I found that MSN has listed all the pages of this new site. Very impressive speed!

To fight against the bigger two, I think MSN's new strategy might be to signal some forms of superiority eg. crawling faster, indexing bigger and fresher.

MSN is usually a lot quicker than google in recognizing changes to my pages. I even use Google Sitemaps too.

Well, in fairness to Google, they managed to list the 10 new pages the following day and the day after that. So they weren't far behind MSN. Considering this new "Big Daddy" roll out and the holidays ... I guess being a little slower than usual is OK! :)

G is very slow at adding new pages at the moment for me also.
I suspect it is probably all this messing about with updates/bigdaddy etc
Presumably they don't want to add loads of new pages until they sort out the ones they already have

Thats right that MSN robot works harder and better than any other search Engines, MSN indexed my pages just a night away. Yahoo is better a bit but google is very very slow. Morever, search results from MSN are more quality, more better sites selected, Google came out with millions but maybe 70% of them are crap. Lets use MSN. ( I am saying that not because my sites are top rank in MSN, Yahoo and not bad in Google ) but this is 100% true

It must be just me then - I think the msn bot is very poor.

Sure it will skim a small site and index it very quickly. We can knock together a 50 page site within a few days and msn will have it ranking at the top of its serps within days - but that doesnt mean the bot is any good or its results.

On sites we work on that are content rich with information, msn struggles to cashe even 10% of the site content. Just look around at some of the larger sites using the site command on msn and see how little of the total number of pages they have in the index.

Sorry but both Google bot and Slurp outperform msn bot by a mile

Until msn improve the bot they will remain a very distant third option for search imo

MSN picks up new pages quickly. Yahoo is my most aggressive spider, but much slower to add pages. Google seems to be at a standstill right now and is second to MSN in adding pages.

I think the last 2-3 weeks MSN search have even improved more inquality and I must say for my site I get more visits from MSN even if they have not moved in ranking for awaile.

What RichTC says pretty much mirrors my experiences.

MSNbot does not go deep enough into a site IMO and large sites are very poorly represented in the index (unless you are a big brand that they seem to have delibrately paid attention to).

Still likes to list the pages that link to the content before the content pages themselves.

MSN is allowing too much spam and redirects in there SERPs, if they could find a way to filter out redirects they would have more relevant results.

RichTC is correct in my opinion, even tho MSN might index small sites quicker it doesnt bring you better results for your page. Personaly i think microsoft just decided with msn search enging "ahhh... that'll do." and just kinda left it do do a bad job of searching sites, obviously it is no where near as complex as googles search algorythm which taks into account plenty of other thinks instead of just your content and anchor text.

If your sites are listing higher in msn than they are in google then that means some one isnt doing as well in msn as they are in google, most likely because like the guy above said, big sites stuggle in it.

all in all, even tho your searches maybe good in msn, its still better they were in google, since like only 10% of people go to msn at the max...and ill stop blabbering on now

Yes i agree that MSN works very fast, but what it usese to rank a website, is it the "title" OR "meta tags" OR "the back links" OR the anything else... do anyone know about this? help me please...

MSN is getting some of our sites within a week

new pages on existing sites are in the index within 3 days, then ranking within 5-7 days

definately an improvement in the last few months

MSN is evolving, like Google did. Currently the SERP's show crappy results. But with the start of MSN PPC Adcenter, there are chances that MSN will improve its Algo based on overall relevancy. Right now, I think Keyword density is the main criteria for MSN ranking, because of more examples of sites coming up on MSN due to keyword stuffing.

I take it there is no penalty for KW stuffing on MSN, there certainly is none on Google.

I think MSN is improving a great deal and they now have a lot in common with Google circa 2003. I like that their SERPs are fresh and that new sites don't have to wait a year to perform well. Though I usually use Google for most searches, I find that it's actually easier to find relavant sites on money keywords in MSN than in Google as Google's gotten way too cranky.

Well, since the ten pages were launched on December 29, I have launched 6 additional pages between January 24 to February 15.

MSN have indexed 3 pages (launched January 24 and February 4)

Google has indexed one page (launched January 24)

Yahoo have picked up none thus far and still haven't indexed any of the pages launched on December 29! Man they're slooooow!

I think MSN is doing much better than they used to, Google is definitely slowing down and Yahoo seems to be asleep!
