MSN Update?

It appears to me that there has been another MSN update and alot of the scraper sites and keyword laden domain names are no longer owning the first page of SERPs. Of course this is only in the areas that I follow keywords for. Can anybody else see a huge difference in the SERPs?

MSN is making great strides in the quality of its SERP's and it appears to me that they are indeed listening to what webmasters are telling them!

I wouldn't worry to much about it. I have two sites in particular that always seem to drop totally out of the index for their top terms (very competitive and I'm in the top 5). This happened again yesterday, couldn't find them anywhere...but as in the past, they jumped back up there this morning.

And you cant talk to anyone.. Cant find a support address for MSN and then everyone here crawls into a corner whenever you ask simple question..

No one has ever had to contact MSN from here?

Which I'd still could use .. whatever happened to MSNdude.?

I actually had a big problem about a month ago with one of my ecommerce sites. Some problem in the coding and MSN wouldn't spider the site. I went back and forth with MSN for about 2 weeks and they actually found the problem for me...and it was because of my programming.

This was the only time I had to contact MSN, but they were great help.

My site hasn't jumped back yet. It's quite weird going from top 5 to nowhere on MSN... Never happened to me before...

How can search engine can be so blind even with lots of reports to this.

That example you give is quite similar to what's happening in the searches 1 of my sites used to be on top 5, and now there's pages and pages full of blogs with different templates but exact same content, and they even have a list of keywords on H1 right there at the footer of the blog... so, isn't that spam?

Well, I have a site that shows over 200 backlinks - but none of the pages indexed by MSN...

sahuman - MSN is not just backlinks like on google here you also have to do a little on site optimazion.

Not sure if i've been banned by MSN - the number of indexed pages for my site has gone from over 150 to just 14..

Anyone else experienced this before or have any words of advice?

I'm not that worried about it yet. Usually screwy things with the MSN search results correct themselves within a few days. If it lasts over a week, then I think we all have something to be concerned about.

My site went from 450 pages in MSN with good rankings on various keywords to one url-only listing last summer. There was nothing I had done to the site to cause that to happen. Despite various things I tried and contacting MSN several times, it was not relisted. This was even though MSN said my site was not being penalized. They also told me they did not know why my site had been basically removed and could not be relisted. They did send the bot back but it only crawled 27 pages before giving up, and that resulted in the same single url-only page (not the index page).

Now my site is back in, all pages listed, and rankings where they were. I did not do anything different to my site. Weirdly enough, MSN is listing something like 2500+ pages for my site, when it is really less than 20% of that and is static html. I am assuming this means much more shifting is in the future. I don't expect my site to even stay in MSN, to be honest, the way things have gone. If it does, great. If not, there is nothing I can do about it.

This experience with MSN since summer taught me that the whole SE thing is totally capricious and nonsensical. I hate the way my business is at the mercy of this senselessness. I decided that it was best to diversify how I get the word out about my site, to pay to get included in focused listings targeted to particular grouops, to buy AdWords for content, to buy ads in magazines, to have a newsletter, to do mail catalogs, to write a book focused on my audience, the whole nine yards. It is hard enough to be in business and try to anticipate market changes and such without having to be at the mercy of SEs that do things in such an occult way.

I think right now is the best search results ever, but I bet they will also in some time mess it up like google did, when there results where good.

Well I disagree...we went from #2 to gone. It may though be our own as I had our server down for 3 hours at night for a firewall implementation 2 nights in a row. Oh, the joy of staying up till 2:00 AM. Still, I know the bots come by at all ours. We stayed steady in Yahoo, but dropped in Google from 13 to 30. Thanks Sonicwall.
