Glad to have MSN Search

Nice to have another SE

Whether the results are right on or not, whether you're ranking well or not, or whether you despise monopolistic software companies; I think we all agree it's nice having another major SE. Makes what we do more interesting for one thing. It gives websites that are ignored by the other SE a new life. And, of course, it gives us another way to find what we're looking for.

I totally agree. At each of our sites I've installed a bot detection script, and for the past couple months the msnbot is hitting them 3 and 4 times as often as googlebot or yahooslurp. That tells me that MSN is doing serious deep crawling, and when I look at my stats to see where the referrals are coming from, MSN now very often leads the pack.

For many of us who well remember the days of multiple search engines -- AltaVista, Excite, Lycos, Go.com, HotBot, Yahoo, AllTheWeb, et al -- the drop to only 2 major players was not good news. So 3 big se's are better than 2, and 4 would be better than 3, though I would be hard pressed to predict what other company can financially compete at that level at this point in the game, so it may remain at 3 for the foreseeable future.
