Can someone point to an explanation of the Deep Links feature* in Bing webmaster tools? I found it while

-- don't everyone yawn at once --

looking up something else, and simply can't remember whether it's been there for years and I never noticed it before. Can't for the life of me figure out what it does, and the Info popup is no help.

* About halfway down "Configure My Site", for those who visit bwt as seldom as I do ;)

Can't find the website where it was posted but this was the comment from Duane Forrester about deep links:

"Those things are in there because we know that people interact with that content deeply and they want that content. They’ve proven it to us time and time again over a fairly long period of time. So a lot of this has to do with us trusting that content as being an excellent result for a searcher."

I should hope so :) If I'm linking to someone, I'll link to the exact page or directory the content is on, not a generic "Meh, this site is pretty decent overall". There's even some discussion of this if you look up "bing + deep links" here at WebmasterWorld.

The part I can't figure out is what the tool is supposed to do.

"The ability to block a deep link URL from showing up anywhere with a single action. You can now block a URL from appearing as a deep link anywhere, that is below any parent URL within your site"

Oh, thanks, that's what I was trying to understand. So what they call "deep links" aren't deep links at all, they're what g### calls "sitelinks".

And they've only been doing it two months, which is a reasonable lag time for discovering a bing wmt feature.
