We rank #2 in Google for our targeted keyword after gathering hundreds of incoming links.
However, this doesn't help us much with MSN Beta... we're #13 in MSN beta.
One of our competitors has pushed several pages into the top 10 on MSN search by using a "Classified Ads Network" to push their backlinks up. Totally junk.
Then I searched for the same term in quotation marks and got tons of results, including my site. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
MSN does seem to be doing a great job in getting pages indexed, though. I can't find a single page of my site it hasn't indexed, including one I added just two days ago. Now if only they would rank well enough for someone to find. Right now they're buried beneath mountains of irrelevant junk results.
My site is doing pretty bad in MSN. My main 2 keywords in whoch I hold top position in both G and Y are no where to be seen in the first pages of msn search. One of them is even in the 4 or 5th page.
I really don't like this new search (wonder why...)
Actually, the more I look at it, the more the resukts seem to be junk. In one of my keywords, the main page of a well known spam site is first. Then results 4 & 6 and 5 & 7 are two EXACTLY identical pages, with a slightly different domain name. Msn doesn't seem to notice duplicate content yet.
My opinion: at this beta level MSN search is pure JUNK. They better stick with yahoo for another 18 months before their programmers get it right.

The only thing we really focus on is extensive cross linking between our sites with relevant anchor text. It seems that this has paid off much better with MSN Beta than it does with Google.
You're begging to be banned.
Seems like the way to mget traffic is to do a page with a title for lots of moderate level competition key word-phrase and get a couple of external links to each page.
