Question: I would make the point that people use the Web now more for search than for browsing, and that Google is responsible for that, for better or for worse.

Question: Just marketing, is that what you're saying?

Gates: No, no, no. I would never say that. [laughter]. They are more like Microsoft—I mean, what they focus on isn't quite as broad—but they're more like us in terms of the kinds of people they hire, and how they think about where the technology is going, than most companies in the software industry. Question: You mean that as a compliment, right?

Gates: I think so. [laughter] They might not take it that way.
