Some Mac users are reporting problems with Apple's Boot Camp, the software that lets Intel-based Macs run Windows. Ironically, some users have said been stuck with Windows, with their hardware left unable to reboot the Mac OS.

Exactly why I haven't gone for it! I don't want to be one of those Rubes playing the Guinea Pig! I'll wait for the second or maybe even the third generation before diving into that pool!

Yeah, um, 10 people? That's news?

Don't get me wrong, I feel for these people. But nearly all of them had the smarts to backup their data first and they mostly seem to understand that playing with this kind of beta software is risky.

That's an overstatement, when the worst case scenario reported is having to reformat your hard drive.

Boot Camp is so cool that some folks are getting their first taste of life on the bleeding edge. "Let's be careful out there."

What bugs me the most is why do you want to have a dual boot with windows when you can emulate and have the best of the two worlds in one place? Also may I add that a brand new wintel machine (notebook from dell) is as cheap as $400.

One reason why dual boot beats emulation: speed.

One reason why dual boot or emulation beats buying a second computer: weight. :)

Emulation has gotten a bad name in the Mac crowd because we are used to thinking of emulating the whole computer processor.

But on an Intel Mac, where you're emulating just some odds and ends of the platform (e.g., BIOS) it'd be much faster. With plenty of RAM, you might not notice a slowdown at all.

A virtualization product, like VMware or Virtual PC (not the "for Mac" version) would be very handy for a Mac webmaster.

(Then I'll just use Boot Camp for playing games.)

I can't for the life of me understand why any Mac user would want to expose themselves to Windows problems. My hub has Windows machines--he goes from one to the other restoring them because of some problem or other. I just keep plugging along on my faithful Mac.
