Ipod - Can it record sounds?

DIdnt know where to post this but I was thinking of buying an Ipod and wondering can it record voices for my University Lectures? Can it accept Microphones or anything?

Someone interviewed me with one yesterday so I guess some can record. Most of the latest mobiles can record as well now.

there is no built-in mic in the iPod.

there are 3rd party devices that just plug in and enable the iPod to record using a built-in mic on the device, Belkin makes one for $19.99

note- these only work on the full-size iPods.

There are a couple attachments for the older full size iPods, one from Belkin and one from Griffin Technology

One for the new video iPods was announced in January, and should be shipping sometime before summer. see [xtrememac.com...]

You can also record on your mac and transfer the recording to the iPod. Most Macs have a built in mic I think, and there is some out there software to help with managing/recording your voice memos on the Mac and sending them to the iPod.

I have no idea what was used for the interview but it looked like a nano but I really have very little knowledge about ipods.

The two people were using the headphones to record the interview. I could not see any attachments.
