We're having trouble FTPing to our website from a Mac. Strangely though we can connect with Windows XP using Internet Explorer/FileZilla with Virtual PC.

Fugu won't conenct at all and Safari connects to the FTP site but when we try and copy files it says there isn't permission. Could our hosts have set it up so only Windows machines can edit files on the server. That would seem strange especially as the server is Unix!

Any ideas?

fwordboy,

I have seen this a lot...

Our solutions have been to do two things:

1. Turn off passive mode transfers (PASV)

and

2. Turn off the OS Firewall via the Control Panel -> Sharing

I also stongly recommend stand alone FTP software such as Fetch they are much more configurable for FTP then a browser.

Try downloading CyberDuck, it's a free FTP, I use it in my school lab and works great.
