Using MS Remote Desktop Client on a Mac

Its not working for me

I have used VPC 6 to execute MS programs but have often had problems of very slow performance or crashes, so I thought I would try using MS-RDC instead.

All I want to do is to execute MS-Visio and MS-Project residing on my business PC XP system via MS-RDC on my OS X 10.3.9 or OS X 10.4.2 machines. Slow, I can handle, crashes and data loss - no - too boring.

I've turned off the PC's XP firewall and anti-virus software, enabled "remote desktop" - nothing. All I get is a "could not connect . . ." message. I've tried direct (cross-over) connection between the Mac and the PC and also ethernet cables via a router so I don't think there are network issues involved - something is blocking me from the Wintel end.

Any helpful ideas would be most welcome - thanks.

Don't know if this is your issue, but the PC has to running XP Pro in order for you to connect to it. XP Home won't act as a server.

Thanks for the quick reply - unfortunately I am already running XP Pro.

I use a RDC daily and found its easier to use the ip address of the machine I am connecting to than to play around with what port to open up on my mac firewall.
