According to market chatter, Apple is set to announce a deal with Google to offer Apple's iTunes music store through its own site.
Google has been paying attention to Apple lately - First expressing interest in their search technology, now iTunes.
"Google is going to offer iTunes somehow on their platform," according to the rumor, he says.
Not sure how I feel about this... business is business though and Apple is dipping as much as Google is these days.
If Google includes album artwork, easy links to the audio samples, and ties in lyric searching -- I might just look for songs on Google before buying them at the iTunes music store. The iTMS search function sucks right now anyways. :/
Who's gonna be upset? Hmm... probably the bazillion lyric website owners out there that Google would have to scrape to build a comprehensive lyric search. Other than them, Apple and Google both win and their respective users both win as each gets new useful features.
Should be interesting to see how it works out.
For example, as of this writing, if you go to [google.com...] you’ll get redirected a few times and land at an AdWords marketing page; whereas [google.com...] generally results in a 404 (“Not Found”) error...
One of the URLs you'll pass through is [services.google.com...]
I think it would be too soon for Google to start launching some sort of URL for this... and it is not even official yet. Just an early update.
In my experience, all the different pieces of a complex new service get pushed online with the 'public front page' being the last. Imagine how difficult it would be to make every part of something live simultaneously just to learn that the redirect doesn't work right?
