Hello out there!

We have just recently moved to OS 10.4 server edition. I have all the groups and access set up correctly, I am having one small problem though...

The clients using OS 9 can't see the server in their "chooser".

Right now, they have to manually type the IP address of the server every time they want to log in. Of course this isn't a problem with OS X because you have your "favorite servers" in a list to choose from.

Is there a way to either:

1) get the server to show in the chooser

2) put a "one click" alias on their desktop (btw, I tried making a straight alias of the mounted volume, but once it is put away, I get the message "The volume ###### cannot be found")

This is such a simple thing usually, but I really have been at it too long to be thinking rationally.... Any ideas?

You said you moved to 10.4...from OS 9 Server or 10.3? If you upgraded from one of those, was it working before?

If you enable File Sharing on one of the OS 9 machines, can you see it in the chooser of the other machines? I wonder if this is a network issue if you cannot see them...

Also, check out:

Hope this helps!

OK ... Solved it!

The problem (for future reference) is that X.4 no longer supports Appletalk per se, being it will allow BROWSING in Appletalk but not connections in Appletalk. So the clients can browse to the server using their chooser, and connect via TCP/IP. All I had to do was find the "Allow clients to browse with Appletalk" and turn it on and reboot. To do this though the server manual says you must turn on Appletalk in your Network Preferences PRIOR to turning on AT Browse mode.
