1. The first 'article' that says the G5 line-up was discontinued in 2004. Uh, so the dual 2.5ghz that was in the store when I bought my dual 2.0ghz did not really exist? Or, only existed for a few months? Hm OK.
2. From one of the 'articles' you cited this is a quote:
'there is a significant upgrade in "G5 technology" coming to the company's lineup'
Please, note the 'significant upgrade' line in the conjecture presented here... NOT the termination of the line-up as your post would indicate.
3. Just play along with this line of thinking for a minute:
Hi, we just introduced the G5 processor. It powers the 3rd fastest super-computer on the face of the earth (built with dual 2.0ghz G5 processors at the core see U of Tenn for details, or Apple's web site). The computer mentioned was built for approx. 4mil. Yes, the G5 is based on 64-bit technology, the direction of computing in the future. We have recently introduced the iMac G5 and will probably soon release the PowerBook G5. We are going to go ahead and remove PowerMac line-up from our product base, because we don't want them any more.
Please, are you daft? If this line-up is going anywhere, it is going faster and more solid than it already is. That I can actually believe. The implication of your post, that the line-up is going to disappear, is very politely, 'garbage'.

"The will be a comet in June of '05 that will be passing by Mars on it's way through our solar system. By the end of June we should be able to see it from Earth."
and turning it into ...
"Hey everyone! I read that there is a comet the size of Mars heading straight toward Earth! The world is going to end by the last of June!"
-- Same material in both, but twisted to fit some fantasy... Just sad...
My applolgies for the tone of my posts... Chalk it up to siliness.
I think the main thing you missed when calling and asking about the discontinuation of the line, was any sales person who has an inventory of a product, which will soon be replaced by a better product, will normally forget to mention the latter to you... If you know bigger and better is around the corner, why would you buy a product from his inventory now?
Anyway, sorry again... uncalled for.
