I posted here recently that our studio & editorial depts were looking to make the change from Quark to InDesign. This is on the cards.

One of the 'benefits' of InDesign is the ability to publish for the web through GoLive. Anyone with any experience of using this at all?

So far my only experience of creating web pages has been through Dreamweaver MX - any comparision, or is GoLIve solely used for transfering magazine content & similar onto web pages?

I use GoLive on a regular basis... It is MUCH more than just a web-publishing program to help get you current issue or edition online. You can create a site from scratch VERY easily using it, InDesign and Photoshop. I suggest going to Adobe's website and checking out the GoLive product info. It pretty well lists all of it's capabilities. I don't use it all the time, but enough to know that it's very powerful and a good tool to have in your arsenal. :0)

I have been a GoLive user when it was called Cyberstudio and was a beta tester for the application. Later bought out by Adobe and everything continued to get better.

I second the idea that you go to Adobe’s website if you have not already. I personally find the workflow phenomenal between all the Adobe products.

Publishing to the web via InDesign is great and works great! GoLive is much more than just an editor or ftp application. GoLive is packed with just about everything Dreamweaver has to offer, (I am also a DW user when I have to be) but your benefits are weighed in by Adobe’s cross application support.

Perhaps I am biased though… been a heavy Adobe user pretty much since the beginning even with Photoshop. Perhaps I have not pushed Dreamweaver enough… Adobe’s site should help you make these decisions.

Thanks both.

We're making the leap from Quark to InDesign (and all that comes with it) in the next couple of weeks - a very big jump for us, indeed.

In splashing out on upgrading the hardware, and changing the key software; I just hope that it all goes smoothly...

Enjoy the transition!

I ditched Quark a few years ago after using InDesign. It is always a surprise to hear a company switch to InDesign because the world is dominated by Quark Users. I end up having to go back to using Quark at times to appease those who are loyal to the company.

I don't know what Quark has planned for the future, but if they don't do something InDesign may have a good shot of being a standard.
