VNC Listening Port?

need to find listening right port on mac

My first tech question here...

Situation:
I am sitting behind a firewall here at the office. We have 5 dedicated IP addresses and want to set one dedicated IP for the Mac. Our desire is to run on either "OSXvnc" or "Share My Desktop (vnc)" application - and can't seem to get either to work unless the Mac is on its own IP address. (or so it seems)

When I launch either of the vnc applications they both present me a Port number as a default (i think?).

Main Questions:
1.) How do I find the correct port my Mac listening on for the remote admin function?
2.) Is the port numbers either vnc is giving me, the detected listening port?

Before I can configure a dedicated IP address for the Mac through the firewall - My admin needs to know the Listening Port for the Mac.

If it helps:
Hardware = Dual 1.8 G5 1GIG DDR SDRAM
OS = OS X 10.3.5
Connected: Ethernet
Firewall: Nextland - IPSec enforced - Pro 400

OSXvnc lets you choose the port to listen on. Once you pick that you just need to forward that port through your firewall to the server OSXvnc is running on.

Question: When I launch OSXvnc it presents me with my firewall ip 192.168.0.X and a port 5501 for example.

Is the software presenting me with a port that it is listening through? Or is this just some random port number?

VNC Software aside: On a Mac how does one find the listening port?

The default VNC ports are:

5500 - Listening Client
5800 - Java Applet Server
5900 - Server

On *NIX based systems like OS X, the base port is incremented by the X Windows screen number that the service applies to.

So 5501 is the the listening client port for X screen 1.

If you want to connect a VNC client to the VNC server running on your Mac then I would guess that the service will be listening on port 5901.

That said, this is only convention :)
