I bought a used G3 Mac OS 10.3 off ebay and everything appears to be working correctly except I can't connect to the Internet. I checked with my ISP and according to what I told him he said it sounds like it's the modem.
I opened the case and can't tell if there is even a modem card in there. There is only one card (about 3" x 6") and it's a Graphics card. I checked where the phone cord plugs into the back of the computer and it goes directly into the Motherboard.
Can someone tell me if it's supposed to have a large card for the modem or is this built into the motherboard somewhere?
I'm thinking that they might have removed the modem card but I don't know enough about the inside of a Mac to tell.
thanks,
Lori
I don't reckon you'd call it a "big card."
(Maybe it's just a knee-jerk, from-the-hip remark, but "It sounds like the modem" sounds like knee-jerk, from-the-hip remark made by an ISP.)
To tell if OS X.3 recognizes the modem:
In your System Preferences...Network panel, go to "Network Port Configurations" under the "Show" pop-up list. Your available network options will appear below. If all is well, you will see "Internal Modem" and "Built-in Ethernet) at least.
