I managed to read about Apple's newest iPhone introductions, and I see the company is continuing to push high value items, which i'm sure will continue to make the trillion dollar company grow even more.

Prior to this launch I went to look at the iPhone X and was shocked at the price. There's no way I want to pay that much. I thought i'll wait until the new products are launched. Well, here they are, and the price point is even higher for some of them.

I wonder if Apple has decided it can still make sufficient sales of high-end products to its loyal up-graders.
It appears, if you want a new iPhone because the old one is on its last legs you can still buy the older models, although they are, in typical Apple fashion, not heavily discounted.

IMO all the iPhones have that ugly edge to them. Saw the promos for the X and the XS and they still have that awful look.

Most (not all) of the late Android models have a graduated bevel which not only improve the grip, but give it a pleasing aesthetic.

All the higher-end phones are overpriced. My last 3 phones each cost more than my desktop computers.

I use Android OS, so i'm not tied to one manufacturer, however, the Wife likes using the iPhone UI, and she's probably going to stick with it, but not a new one that those prices. It's the larger screen she'd prefer.
I very much doubt all the power in those iphones is ever put to real use, so it's overkill.

It amazes me that people are willing to spend over a grand on a phone (any brand). Apple does seem to do well with the UI, but they always seem to have the same recurring issues with the hardware.

People want other people to think that they are successful, so they buy expensive things that other people know the price of..
Veblen goods..
[en.wikipedia.org...]
There are "brand" handbags and wrist watches that sell for well over $100.000.oo..
As someone who makes things in the "luxury" market..
I'm thankful that they do.. :)

Has there ever been a real study on what percentage of an iPhone's capability people actually use? Most people do not even read user agreements, so what makes anyone thing they read operating instructions. When was the last time you looked at your car's owner's manual.

I can't offer a "real study", but apart from webmasters and other techies I suspect that the percentage on both iOS and Android is very low, with most using little else but Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, messaging and the built-in camera.

And while almost everyone carries a smartphone these days, youngsters seem to have a panic attack if it ever actually rings.

I'm one who *does* utilize the capabilities of today's smart phone, as much as I can.

I do daily updates to web pages, change sale info, schedule clients on my DB, etc using my phone. I have an HTML editor, a TEXT editor, a file manager, an SFTP client and can connect easily to my local machine on LAN to update and back-up files, then upload to my server.

I'd rather do all this on a larger screen and keyboard, but I move all over town most days and am rarely in my office. When I am at my desk, I'm their because someone has scheduled a recording session or music lesson so I'm doing something other than web work.

I use a 128gb SD memory card which holds a surprisingly amound of data, but quite a bit of the files I access are cloud based. Makes it easy.

Why does everyone keep telling me that?
