Apple make affordable Veblen goods..and have some of the best advertising in the world to make the "I must have the shiny" reality distortion field..Plays to the same part of the brain of their consumers as does the idea of a sky fairy to those who have a need to believe, and to force those who don't to do as their invisible friend says anyway..
Google too has found their own "niche" in this psychological vacuum some have, name all the big corps ( except MS ) , facebook, twitter, instagram et al, they have all found a piece of that psychological vacuum that exists in the majority and which most require filling..

One can be impressed by how they all ( including religions and populist politicians ) do it, but it makes one weep for humanity as long as their need to believe that "something is the right way, the best, looking out for me, will protect me, is doing no evil" exists..

No. It just proves @Leosghost point. They are better at marketing, coupled with the fact we have become such a "new shinny object" society. Apple has to be given credit for building a product that 1) does not play well with others which forces you to only use their products and OS and 2) making you think this is a "must have" item. A simple analogy is: Google, Windows and such are fast food, Apple is a 5 star restaurant. It is all hype and hype and hype sells.

Yes, Apple 's power is all in the marketing , when Steve Jobs returned, at a time Apple was in bad shape, all was about marketing and design.

I guess that Apple is richer than several countries in the World.

Sadly, that's about the size of it. At this point the primary reason I remain devoted to my Mac--even though each new OS is less attractive and usable than the one before--is that, hey, at least it isn't Windows.

Ha... those of us that use Apple products will continue the kool-aid thinking that stock market success is related to product superiority without understanding the reality of clever advertising.

Good for them. As long as there are people that would continue to throw their money, there should be someone to cash in. Never really realized the big deal with their products, but they've done a tremendeous job on forming a brainwashing cult. They deserve every penny.
