Another any password bug on macOS High Sierra allows App Store preferences to be changed.
If you're running macOS High Sierra, try this:

  • Open System Preferences.
  • Click on App Store.
  • If the padlock is unlocked, click to lock it.
  • Click the padlock to unlock it.
  • In the prompt, enter your username and any password.

The App Store preferences pane should unlock. We tried it on a new iMac and MacBook Pro, both with macOS 10.13.2, and it worked.

The bad new is that I verified it on one laptop. The good news is that there is a fix (in OSX 13.3.3 - currently beta) rolling out shortly. I have not updated to High Sierra, I am one of those slow pokes who waits for apps to be updated before jumping on the next update.
