According to the WSJ, Apple's commitment to producing electric cars is taking a higher profile, and a target date of 2019 has been set. Note, these are not autonomous driver-less vehicles, but electric pure vehicles.

I can just imagine the fanboys, and fangirls, lining up outside car dealerships in the days and nights before to drive off with the first Apple car.

"unlock to swipe" ?

"the battery will not be replaceable"

it will have "rounded corners"

it will be "shiny"..

Samsung will release one that looks very much like it..it will be known as "a ringer"..

I can just imagine the fanboys, and fangirls, lining up outside car dealerships in the days and nights before to drive off with the first Apple car.

many of whom will not actually be old enough to possess valid driving licences..

there....that's all the "obvious ones" out of the way..;)

Leosghost has the best commentary on this I've seen yet. And he raises a good question. Driver licences? No driver, no licences, right? Hmmmm...

(You missed one "obvious one," however: "from the people who brought us Apple maps, the self-driving car...")

The impact on our social structure this technology is going to be huge. And I've come around to thinking it's not "if it comes to pass" but instead, when it comes. I'm looking forward to self-driving cars myself.

My wife says it can drive her to the grocery store. I said, well, yes but more likely you'll just send the car to the grocery store to pick up your order and it will come back. She replied, "Cool!" (Put the dog in the car. He'll enjoy the trip.)

All of that said, Apple is a huge firm with lots of projects. I wonder how much of this is "me too" spin to drive their stock price up and create buzz.

I was torn between continuing riffing on apple here and the (drive )train wreck that is VW since the weekend..

I will add that if one has to install the sheer horror that is itunes in order to be able to use it...

Given that VW is unlikely to recover from the PR soon..and to take your idea..re dogs..

trans(porter)5 anyone ;)

Yes he finally caught one..and appears to know what to do with it, or at least to be holding it the right way..

Thanks leosghost, you know I wanted to set you up for those. ;)

Let's hope the first Apple car doesn't run out of juice on the way. :)

Oh, and don't bump into another car as the Apple car bruises easily. :)

Yes, Weeks, but this first one is not going to be driver-less, so it'll require someone over the legal age, and having passed the appropriate tests to use on public roads.
