A recent exploit in SMS text messages was unveiled and Apple has released a patch.

This update is only available through iTunes, and will not appear in your computer's Software Update application, or on Apple's site.

Make sure to update your iPhone ASAP.

As a follow up. Your iPhone does not automatically update with the latest firmware every time you sync it. So make sure you manually ask for iTunes to check for software updates the next time you sync up.
