Strange Colour Problem

Hi,

I have a problem on my mac (os x) which I just can't figure out. Example:

I create an image in photoshop and use the hex colour #ff8040. Create the image, save, it. All's okay until I use the built in color meter to check the color and it tells me the colour is actually ff6263. I use other apps (gimp) and check it on windows and they all tell me that the colour is in fact ff6263.

So initially I thought it was a photoshop problem but when I open the image with preview it thinks the colour is ff6263 as well. It isn't just the eyedroppers getting it wrong either as the image is noticably darker.

I am 100% sure that the colour is in fact ff8040 so why are these 2 apps getting it wrong (maybe others would as well but these are the only ones I checked). It happens no matter what colour I use.....Photoshop and Preview always think its darker than it is.

Does anyone have any ideas? This is driving me crazy!

Thanks!

UPDATE:

It apears I was talking crap last night. It is a photoshop specific problem. I've since figured out that all I had to do was change my proof setup to RGB in photoshop.

Thanks!

almo136,

Glad to hear you figured it out. Sometimes it's the little things like that which are the most difficult to fix.
