hi-

i am trying to put short clips of an Mp3 onto a website for a band.

can anybody recommend software for Mac 10.2.6, preferably free or demo, that would allow me to edit the Mp3 directly.

i need to cut a 4min file down to 30sec and have it fade in and out.

i've done this using aiff files in Adobe Premiere but i cant find that demo for the mac.

if not, can someone recommend software that i can edit aiff files on? i can convert the Mp3 to aiff and then back if necessary.

thanks

I haven't had to edit audio on OS X yet. Have you tried looking on VersionTracker?

thanks, atadams, for pointing me in the right direction.

this was a major PITA!

i found an app called RAW--it is a browser. this browser can record sound from any website on the fly.

i had to upload each 5-7mb song, individually because i only have 10mb personal webspace, and load the page with the audio file using RAW.

with a stopwatch, i waited for the right moment in the song to catch my desired clip. the clip was saved as an m4a in my itunes folder.

i then had to convert it back to an mp3 and insert it into the audio folder in the bands website.

there has got to be an easier, more practical way to do this!?!

Doesn't the Audion program do this?

audion was the first app i got from versiontracker...i couldn't figure out how to select which part of the song to cut--duh. i figured it out today.

iMovie can also do this, but with better control, and it allows me to apply a fade in/out to the sound clip. however, the audio file is saved as a quicktime movie, not an Mp3. iTunes easily converts qt movies to Mp3, but the fade in/out gets lost in the process.

i suppose i'll just have to live with an abrupt start and an abrupt end to the sound clip.

Try using Sound Studio (get it at versiontracker)

Import mp3 (use Import with QuickTime in file menu).
Then cut the file and put in fades.
Save the file as an aiff.
If you convert this to an mp3 with iTunes the fades should remain.
