Hi,

Is the iMac powerful enough to run windows via parallels? I am a programmer so I would be using programming tools when using windows.

Which iMac? You need at least 2 GB of RAM, preferably more, to get decent performance.

the imac, not the mac pro or mac book pro.
the single monitor with built in cpu.

i thought that is the name for it, imac!

The reason s/he asked is that there's many versions of the iMac through the last few years, way back to the original fruit colored ones (G3's?).

To answer your question though, yes, I use VMware currently and have used Parallels in the past to run Windows on my iMac (last generation, white) without problems. If it's slow add a bit more RAM and you'll be running Windows faster than your PC may have.

I'm running iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo (2.16 GHz), 3 GB RAM. Leopard OS X.

If you have an iMac with an Intel processor and at least 2GB of RAM it will work fine.

I strongly recommend at least 3gigs of RAM if you plan on using it regularly.

Here's the manufacturer's page on system requirements [parallels.com].

is it just me or do Mac users tend to spend more on these 'cool' utitlity type software than window users?

there seems to be all these little $25-50 applications that are tempting to purchase hehe.

It's not just you. Mac users do seem to like "cool" things. A company I work with makes free utilities for Macs and PCs and the comparable Mac stuff is downloaded more then 30 times as much as the pc stuff.
