Hosts File in Macbook

I got a new Macbook and wondering: is there a similar hosts file in OS X to prevent viewing adsense ads?

There is a hosts file on mac. It's at /etc/hosts and can be accessed from Terminal with something like:

sudo pico /etc/hosts

Type in your administrator password and edit away. :)
