Can't wait for Panther...

because 10.2.8 STINKS!

Got email notification that they shipped my copy of Panther today.
Good.
When my imac wakes from sleep, the volume has been reset to full high, and the brightness has been set to full dark. I can't adjust the brightness. So every time my imac goes to sleep I have to restart!
The volume stays screwed up too, and it took me forever to sort it out.
I've done some poking around and these are known issues now, that have been complained about in many places. (None of the fixes suggested work for me...)

Conspiracy theorists would grumble that Apple released a final broken update to Jaguar just to get more people to buy Panther.

But I liked 10.2.6, and was using it when I decided to buy Panther.
No, wait, that's not true-- I was still using Windows 2000 when I decided to buy Panther. ;) I just had to get Jaguar on the way...

So, I really think Panther is going to revolutionize my computing experience-- a lot of the things they've added sound like they asked me first, but I know I would've remembered that if they'd asked me!
I just wish the end of Jaguar had been a happier one. I'm going to go now and shut down because I won't feel like wrestling with it when I have to wake it up! Gonna plug in the headphones too so the speakers don't deafen me when it starts up.

Sorry for your troubles... there were some problems with 10.2.8 when Apple 1st released it, but they took it down, fixed the problems, and re-posted it.

I haven't had any problems with the *fixed* 10.2.8 on my G4 PowerBook.

I've been all right, and I haven't lost anything. It hasn't crashed. It's just... So maddening!
My boyfriend downloaded it when it first came out, with the problems, and his computer would randomly log him out.

The battery indicator's all screwy too. It will give him the message that he has less than five minutes before the computer shuts down, but if he ignores it, he can use it for another hour and a half.

I waited until they fixed it. Hmm...

Well, I checked the tracking info and my copy of Panther is 4 miles away in a warehouse. Ooooooooooh, so frustrating! If I don't get it tonight, my head will go 'splody.

We're an Apple reseller, and I just saw one of the boxes from our initial shipment. Very nice. I hope to bring one of them home tonight. :)

Just got a quick tour of it. The boss was first to install.

Exposé is very cool. The new Finder takes a little getting used to, but it's easy to use (there's a shocker). Some of the apps have improved features -- Mail supports grouping emails by thread, similar to what you've probably done in the past if you've used a Usenet newsreader, and it creates sort of an intro screen when you click on the thread that shows you the full list of emails in that thread, each linked so you can click to read the one you want. Great feature there, but I'm probably not describing it very well. TextEdit supports plain text now, and can also read/save Word documents. (I think it was TextEdit that was doing that....)

Anyway, hope you enjoy it when you get your copy. :-)
