Does anyone know if microsoft ports access out to Macs? I looked all over mactopia, but found nothing. I am guessing not, but wanted to make sure.

not so far as I know. I did some searches too, just to be sure, but didn't find anything.

Yeah, I don't see a direct Access ODBC driver for Mac either. I'm thinking you could have a web app that can output the Access tables into a text file. That you can convert into a usable format.

ODBC drivers for Mac is listed here: maccentral.macworld.com/news/2002/02/13/office/

Perhaps this is a solution you are looking for - I found it to be a great tool while away from my PC...

It is an OSX application - not sure if they make a 9 version or not? Check it out here:SQLBoss [newfreeware.com]

Enjoy

I was doing some research because I too am looking for mySQL solutions for Mac. I use FMPro and found an application that will convert FMpro to mySQL and Oracle.

Thought to share - opens more doors for Mac users and DB.

I guess this has been answered, but to add a note of finality:

MSAccess began its life as a native MSDOS application. It was ported to Win95 and NT. There will never be a Mac version as far as I know.

Mac's aren't often used as database servers, they're not really designed for that (the processor isn't really optimal).

Good luck converting your data.

That may have changed since Mac OS X is a Unix based system that comes with MySQL, PHP, and other server apps preloaded. 10.2.6 you don't even have to go into the terminal window to turn them on anymore. We could see a large change in what is made available for Macs in time to come.

the word from Microsoft on Access for Mac has always been "the market isn't big enough; we'll let FileMaker have it."

but you never know when things'll change. i just think the MacBU has more immediate software concerns, like the Entourage/Exchange upgrade, VirtualPC (from Connectix), etc.

i wouldn't mind seeing Access for the Mac though... it would ease some of my compatibility issues here at work.
