Wow, since Algore "invented the internet", this is a great pickup for Apple!

Wow, since Algore "invented the internet"

I know you were being facetious when you said this, but so many people think Gore actually took credit for "inventing the internet" when he didn't that it drives me bananas.

Gore had said, "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

He got sliced and diced for this comment - oh NO, how could he have invented the internet when ARPANET was developed before he was ever in Congress?! - when what he meant was that he laid the political groundwork and helped promote the public vision that made the internet as we know it today possible.

Which is pretty accurate, when you look at the things he did while he was in Congress.

Just thought I'd throw this into the thread. :)

I think Al Gore's wording was what got him into trouble. If he'd said 'developing' or 'promoting' instead of creating no-one would have batted an eyelid.

However, 'creating' makes it sound like he was working late nights at his PC making the internet from scratch which, your comments above accepted, is at best misleading.

He speaks like people write resumes... make everything sound a little *more* and a little *better* than it is in real life (a technique used in resumes and personal ads both, I suppose). Killed his campaign doing that... everyone was so quick to jump on every exaggeration as an outright lie, when the same tactics are used every day by earnest job seekers nationwide.

Probably just as well for Apple though. If he'd gotten elected, they might have had to put GW on the board instead. ;)

Although it might be interesting to see what would happen to the Mac Bomb message [hawkgirl.com] if GW had the controls ...

Then Apple would be marching on Redmond to save the world from M$opoly.

Or they'd be trying to figure out if there are blacks in brazil who need computers :)

Looking from the business value of making Mr. Gore a board member at Apple, it's a double edged sword.

Mr. Gore might attract a niche market because of his presence, on the other hand he is definitely not a positive adition to an "ailing" company. Mr. Gore has almost no business experience, other then short stint as a home builder.

I believe it's mostly about stock trading legal stuff.

Apple strengthens governance [marketwatch.com].

<added> They also filled "form 8-k" anyone know what this means?</added>

Does anyone know for sure that GW even knows how to use a computer? With a reported IQ of 91 ...... well just wondering.

Al ... Gore, gets a nice fat pay check for sitting on the board. Two or three boards and one could just sit back and really play games.

Since when is being "exciting" any kind of qualification for being a corporate board member? Last I heard, Boards of Directors were not known for being party-hardy dens of non-stop thrills and laffs or anything...

Take it from someone who weathered the California "energy crisis"... some of those Enron folks were a thrill a minute.

Enron...a thrill a minute.

hehehe... Well, in that case, I'd say boring might be just what everyone else should be looking for. ;)
