Help please! Yesterday, I got a new web host. Now, he has given me my server name, login and password and I am trying desperately to transfer a little link on my links page over to the new server. I used the PUT command, I see it just fine on my end, but then I go online and look and the link is not there.

Now, when I used the GET command, I was able to get the recent version of the home page and put it on my computer.

Please help, this is driving me nutty!

Thanks Amy

Amy - Since you are desperate, I will try to help, rather than waiting for one of our resident Mac experts to weigh in...

Try a pure FTP program for your upload and see if that helps - two popular Mac FTP programs are Fetch and Transmit (although I gave up my Mac some time ago and can't really give guidance on which is better).

You may want to check out this thread on Mac FTP programs:

Hopefully, all of the login info your webhost gave you is correct:)

If you have any questions on FTP please let us know - someone will help you!

By the way - you are uploading the whole new page?

I have to say I have never used bbedit's ftp, didn't even know it had one. I always used anarchie since it was well integrated with bbedit. They worked perfectly together, anarchie allowed you to open the files with bbedit and bbedit could save remotely via anarchie.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, i am using fetch and bbedit and somehow I can GET the files from internet to my computer, but I can't PUT them from my computer to the internet. Something is fouled up.

BBEdit integrates with Fetch, so the advice given by Mardi_Gras is good, you can't use BBEdit as a pure FTP client, you can upload the file via fetch and then edit it with BBEdit through the intgrated fetch feature.

From Fetch it goes:

Remote>Edit files with BBEdit

added> the reason you can get the file through the BBEdit FTP client is that it allows you to save it locally.

File>Save as> Desktop whatever

You can't upload with it.

Has your domain resolved yet? Try the new IP address assigned and look for the change.
