Hello,

I run a small website in Ireland, and need to analyse my raw .log files. I can download them as a page in Safari, but it isn't anywhere near adequate.

Does anyone know of an app which will analyse the .log file and show user trends etc? Your help will be really appreciated. Thanks!

Hello andy_boyd,

Welcome to the board and the The Macintosh Webmaster forum.

I use Analog [analog.cx]. It free, available for most platforms and does a pretty decent job. I then run it throug Report Magic [reportmagic.org] (not carbon) to give a nicer presentation for my clients.

The configuration take some time to do but once you have it done you wont regret it.

I really recommend Summary. It's not free, but you can try it for free and see if it's worth it.

Lots of actually USEFUL reports, and it's blazingly fast in reading hundreds of old log files

Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it. These forums rock!

I have been able to look at the file, just as a long, very long, list in Safari. Being able to view the log files certainly reveals some very useful information!

Thanks once again,

Andy Boyd

I use a free log analysis package from sourceforge called AWStats. [awstats.sourceforge.net] It works great for me, with up to the minute analysis via my web browser, using its cgi functionality.

I used analog with report magic earlier, but I didn't like the fact that report magic isn't carbonized. I hate using classic.

Cheers, ;)
