I have a Catch-22 problem.

One of my website client's business is listed incorrectly in Google maps. His business is in Marshfield, but they have him listed in Hanover. I'd like to correct the listing, but it appears that the only way to do it is to have them verify me by sending a postcard to the WRONG ADDRESS.

I've searched for Google help, but their help documents are outdated and incorrect.

I wish I had a quick easy answer for you. I recalled a similar problem here last year: [webmasterworld.com...] and it was not resolved at the end of several suggestions/efforts. Trying some of those links you may find updated information now, but I can't say that with certainty. You may have already tried those suggestions.

Shortly after that thread, Google announced a new/upgraded service for business "Google My Business" listings - maybe you can find the right place at their resources: [googleandyourbusiness.blogspot.com...]

Thanks for the pointer to that thread. It's in the "google my business" area that I tried and they offered to send me a postcard.

Google Mapmaker would have been your answer but they shut that service down a week or two ago.

It looks like it may be more difficult to correct errors than it should be. Another more recent thread here: [webmasterworld.com...] ended up much the same way - the second post there links to a pdf that Google circulated but it looks like they really don't have it all fixed yet.

Three or four years ago I had this problem, but luckily it was at a wrong address where I knew the occupant. However, I did not use the postcard method. I simply created a new listing. It took almost a year before the bad one was removed.
