Google Places "system error" when trying to verify business

I already have a listing for my business but wanted to updated a few details including the phone number. I made several changes which triggered two post cards to verify my details. I'm not sure if I triggered some type of antispam thing but now I can't verify the account and I continue to receive a system error message try again in a few minutes.

As of last night, 3/7, there were a whole bunch of new posts in the Google Places forum indicating that others are experiencing this too. It also seems that this may have been an ongoing problem from back in February. The only thing that strikes me as odd is that I was able to make edits and trigger the post cards to verify twice within the past 3 weeks.

It seems that there are people who have had this problem for a while now and nothing has been done. Any ideas?

Hi Nocturnal,

Sometimes things go south when Places is getting ready for a big update, so you may just need to wait another day or two. (There are so many problems lately that I HOPE they're working an upgrade that actually fixes things instead of just adding more new features.

Also sometimes when lots of people start reporting problems it turns out it only happens with certain browsers. So you can maybe try another browser.

I was in & out editing Place Pages all day today and didn't have have any errors. (Had to work through all kinds of other probs, but not that one.)

Based on all the bug reports in the forum I almost just skipped working on any listings today. But I didn't really have a choice since a new client had all kinds of merged duplicate problems and guideline violations I had to clean up - was afraid he was about to be rejected.

But again it was fine and I didn't hit any errors. I was using IE.

I've seen the same thing Catalyst is referring to wherein switching browsers can alleviate the issue.

Oh and I should have come back to follow up, but I think that particular problem was fixed a couple days later. So hopefully it's resolved now.

I should have come back to let you guys know, I apologize but I believe the next day the problem was fixed. Someone mentioned it would be fixed by 3PM that day and it was a little after, around 4PM I think that it was resolved. I got my post card a few days ago and verified my listing.
