Websites in local results with no relevance

Hello there, I have a problem that I cannot solve at all: I am working to rank a website in local listings, however I did anything I can but no way.
The problem is with 3 websites that are ranked for that particular keyphrase, 3 websites that have nothing to do with the keyphrase (one of them doesn't even have content, it's for sale, but still ranks on local listings).

Cannot something be done about those sites? I'm sure that if they would go away I could climb my site in those local results...

Have you tried the "Dissatisfied with the results?" link? In addition, try a one-star review of the site with no content? You will get another chance to report that listing.

Sometimes, these are temporary glitches.

Thanks for the reply. I tried report and one star review, it's incredible: after the one star review a site moved one place up!
Second, it's not just temporary, it lasts for months...Unbelievable..

Rating a company gives some indication of activity surrounding the business - an indicator of interest.

It's best not to add fresh content about a listing you don't want to rank well, IMHO.

I think Anallawall is right - the Dissatisfied link and report option are best to use. Google will pay more attention when a few people report the same business as being wrong or defunct.
